Osteopathic treatment is a hands on therapy that does not use harmful drugs, medication, or machines to improve or heal an unhealthy or painful condition. There are a number of techniques employed by osteopaths; manipulation being the most recognised is used in conjunction with many gentle techniques. Once a client has finished a course of treatment, personal exercises and postural advice will be given to prevent a re occurrence.

As osteopaths we place a large emphasis on the structural and mechanical faults with in the human framework, but as practitioners we recognise that the body is a complex structure and is influenced by a wide range of environmental and inherited factors. In practice we are concerned about how the body is working, where its not, how that influences the overall health, and what factors will stop the dysfunction re-occurring.

Osteopaths are educated to work as autonomous practitioners, developing their skills during a four-year full time course, including over 2000 clinical hours. Training includes extensive pathology, neurology, and orthopedics, combined with osteopath principles.

The passing of The Osteopathic Act in 1993 resulted in the formation of the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC). Statutory regulation ensures the public that when visiting a 'registered osteopath' their practitioner has fulfilled the high standards of clinical competence, adheres to the professions strict code of conduct, and that they are also covered by professional indemnity insurance.
